Copenhagen Opera Festival began in 2009 and in 2019 we celebrated its 10-year anniversary with 40,000 festival guests. With Copenhagen as a scenic backdrop, we present opera in the city’s streets, on the canals, in apartments, in public squares and in theatre halls. Our regular programme covers everything from morning song to intimate pop-up concerts, from opera bingo to all-night opera for the whole family with Scandinavian talents and international stars. In 2020, due to COVID-19, we were forced to cancel this year's festival. Instead, we will gift the wonderful city and happy people of Copenhagen with 100 Opera Moments.
At Copenhagen Opera Festival, we are very excited to open up and share the process of creating a new Opera, right from the very beginning. Lisbon Floor (working title) is a new commission from the inspiring team of librettist Lea Marie Løppenthin, composer Matias Vestergård Hansen and director Natascha Metherell which began it's journey in 2019 - evolving considerably during the Corona Pandemic.
Copenhagen Opera Festival and The Royal Danish Opera present Barrie Koskys versions of Mozarts The Magic Flute, which has thrilled audiences around the world.
Elvis Costello's genre-less love songs 'The Juliet Letters' were performed during last year's Copenhagen Opera Festival led by Danish singer Kira Skov. This year, we have the honor to put on this wonderfully successful production in collaboration with Tivoli, for one night only, where Elvis Costello’s album yet again will be taken under the artistic wings of Kira Skov and the Copenhagen Philharmonic String Quartet.
