The Copenhagen Opera Festival lives, breathes and thrives in the heart of our beautiful city. Each summer, world-class artists take over the streets, canals, halls and homes with the ultimate combinations of song, theatre, film, drama, dance and storytelling: OPERA!
The Festival seeks out inspiring, passionate and bold artists and visionary spaces for Opera to flourish as well as keeping our much-loved traditions alive. The story first began in 2009, and in 2019, more than 40,000 people attended our events.
In 2020, due to Covid-19, the Festival that we know and love must be cancelled, but we will not be silent and we will not stay "on pause". Instead, the city will ring out with 100 performances over 7 days, where live Opera will be brought directly to your doorstep and 2021 will see the most glorious re-union with artists and audience alike, when we return in full bloom.
In 2021, we commence presenting plans and productions that will grow and evolve with us over the next three years and so, a new chapter begins.
The Copenhagen Opera Festival is for you, whether you are an Opera aficionado, or if you are someone who is simply curious about what Opera is and how it might feel to attend. Our programme is a dynamic, vibrant and enticing menu that you can pick from and there are productions, concerts and events for the whole family. We seek to push the boundaries, to discover new talents, to showcase the brilliance of already established World Class Artists and to let the city shine in a thousand forms through the miracle of the human voice.
Welcome to the website of the Copenhagen Opera Festival - we look forward to seeing you in the summer!
