After 11 years of operettas, there is a new float on the water. It is called The Showboat. Wigs and entertainment are off the top shelf when a crew with twinkles in their eyes, flesh in their corsets, golden throats and magical hands hit the canal cruise.
Opera singers Line Juul Andersen and Thomas Storm take the audience on a Copenhagen canal tour around the corners of the 18th century, where they sing about love, war and gender roles in a charming program with elements from the world of opera, operetta and musicals. You will both hear works by Bent Fabricius Bjerre, Richard Strauss and W.A. Mozart.
Behind the concept, program and staging of The Showboat is bass baritone Simon Duus, who has previously participated in the operetta boat and who is a permanent member of the Royal Theatre's soloist ensemble.
The Showboat is presented in collaboration with Strömma Danmark.
Enjoy a summer afternoon in the open air in Copenhagen. All of The Showboats departures are in open boat, so keep an eye on the day's weather and put on warm, rainproof or summery clothes. In case of dripping along the way, the boat will sail in under one of the nearby bridges and continue the performance from there.
The Showboat sails from Gammel Strand.
