Once again this year, it is a great pleasure for Copenhagen Opera Festival to be able to celebrate a young artistic talent who has made a name for herself. Soprano Sofie Lund receives the Opera Talent of the Year 2024 award for a voice and a career that seductively play on many different strings.
"We need to be entrepreneurial. It doesn't have to be classic all the way." The words come from Sofie Lund, and the quote is telling of the versatile Danish soprano.
Since her debut as Nanetta in Verdi's 'Falstaff' at Den Ny Opera in Esbjerg in 2021, the great talent has interpreted works by the greatest masters as well as modern composers and directors. Sofie Lund has sung strong roles such as Angina in Louise Alenius' 'Manualen', and she has driven around Copenhagen in a party bus as one of the opera rebels in 'Ride! Sing! Repeat!'.
Lund graduated from the Royal Danish Opera Academy in Copenhagen and the Royal College of Music in London and captivates her audience with a flexible lyrical soprano. Dagbladet Information praised her in 2021 for singing the role of Nanetta with "brilliant pitch", and British Bachtrack were so impressed by Lund as Gretel in Humperdinck's opera during a production at the Royal College of Music in 2022 that they predicted a potential for "future Wagner roles with plenty of substance". A role for which she also won the Verbier Festival's Prix Thierry Mermod.
Sofie Lund can be seen at Copenhagen Opera Festival 2024 at her own talent concert in Christian Kirke on 22 August with among others pianist Ulrich Stærk.
